Steering wheels / Cruise controls - Condition - Used

The steering wheel is one of the most used parts of the car interior and the main control element connecting the driver with the vehicle. In Ford models, the steering wheel is often combined with additional functions – such as trip computer operation or cruise control.

Evolution of Ford steering wheels and cruise control

  • Older models (Fiesta MK4, Focus MK1, Mondeo MK2) featured simple steering wheels without buttons. Cruise control, if available, was operated via separate switches.

  • Newer models (Focus MK2, Mondeo MK3–MK4, C-Max) offered steering wheels with buttons for the trip computer. Radio control was located on a separate stalk under the steering wheel, not directly on the wheel.

  • Modern Ford vehicles (Focus MK3, Mondeo MK5, Kuga) introduced multifunction steering wheels, allowing the driver to control the radio, Bluetooth-connected phone, cruise control, and driver assistance systems directly from the wheel.

Replacement and compatibility

  • In some models, steering wheels with buttons or cruise control modules can be retrofitted. However, compatibility with the airbag, Steering Column Control Module (SCCM), and wiring must be checked.

  • Activating cruise control usually requires coding with diagnostic software (e.g. ForScan).

  • Choosing the correct steering wheel and module ensures full functionality without error messages.
