Car radio

An original Ford car radio is an essential part of the vehicle – it not only provides music and radio playback, but also integrates with the car’s electronics, hands-free system, parking sensors, and navigation. Choosing the correct unit is crucial for full functionality and driving comfort.

Evolution of Ford car radios

  • Older models (e.g. Focus MK1, Mondeo MK3) were equipped with 1.8 DIN radios. These units were secured only by a 4-digit security code, so after battery disconnection or replacement, entering the code was enough to make the radio work again.

  • Newer models (Focus MK2, C-Max, Mondeo MK4) adopted the standard 2 DIN size. They were still locked with a 4-digit code, but offered more functions and better dashboard integration. Some trims could also be equipped with a separate Bluetooth/Voice Control module, providing hands-free calling and basic voice commands.

  • Modern Ford vehicles (e.g. Focus MK3, Mondeo MK5, Fiesta 2012+) use SYNC, SYNC2 and SYNC3 multimedia systems, which offer not only radio playback but also Bluetooth, navigation, voice control, and communication with the car’s control units. These modules are no longer code-locked but must be paired through the APIM module and activated using diagnostic software (e.g. ForScan).
