Light switches - Car - Ford Transit Tourneo Connect (2006-2013)

The light switch is a key control element in the interior of a Ford vehicle, allowing the driver to operate headlights, fog lights, and the illumination of the instrument panel. In some versions, the switch also includes the AUTO function for automatic headlight activation.

Evolution of Ford light switches

  • Older models (e.g. Focus MK1, Mondeo MK2) use mechanical light switches with direct wiring. These often include a manual dial for adjusting the headlight beam level.

  • Focus MK2 and Mondeo MK3 feature more modern mechanical switches. Alongside standard controls for headlights and fog lights, many versions already include the AUTO function, which works together with a light sensor to automatically switch on the headlights.

  • Newer models (Mondeo MK4, Focus MK3, Mondeo MK5, Kuga) are equipped with electronic light switches connected to the BCM (Body Control Module). These support advanced functions such as automatic lights, daytime running lights (DRL), light sensors, and integration with the trip computer.

Common symptoms of a faulty light switch

  • Headlights cannot be switched on or off

  • Fog lights do not work

  • Instrument panel brightness cannot be adjusted

  • Illumination of the switch is missing or defective

  • The switch sticks or reacts incorrectly

Replacement and compatibility

  • In older models, the switch can usually be replaced plug & play.

  • Versions with the AUTO function require that the vehicle has a compatible light sensor installed.

  • For modern electronic switches, it is important to choose the correct type according to the vehicle’s equipment (AUTO, DRL, light sensor).
