Flasher and wiper levers - Car - Ford Ka MK1 (1996-2008)
Indicator and wiper stalks, also known as combination switches, are among the most important control elements in Ford vehicles. They allow the driver to operate turn signals, dipped and high beams, front and rear wipers, washer jets, and in some models also switch functions of the onboard computer (trip computer).
Evolution of Ford stalks
-
Older models (e.g. Fiesta MK3–MK5, Focus MK1, Mondeo MK2–MK3) had stalks wired directly. Besides turn signals and lights, they included a wiper interval switch (cycle control) and a button or switch for the trip computer.
-
Newer models (Focus MK2, C-Max, Mondeo MK4) introduced stalks connected to the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM), which translates their signals and communicates them via the CAN-BUS network.
-
Modern Ford vehicles (e.g. Focus MK3, Mondeo MK5, Kuga) use fully electronic stalks communicating through the SCCM directly with the vehicle’s control units.
Common symptoms of faulty stalks
-
Turn signal does not cancel after cornering
-
Front or rear wipers do not operate
-
Wiper interval (cycle) not working correctly
-
Trip computer cannot be controlled
-
Mechanical play or non-responsive buttons
