A Door Control Module (DDM/PDM) is an electronic unit that manages the proper operation of electrical components in the vehicle’s doors. It controls functions such as power windows, central locking, mirror adjustment, turn signal repeaters in mirrors, and in some models even comfort features like automatic window closing.
Evolution of Ford door modules
-
Older models (e.g. Focus MK1, Mondeo MK3) had window and lock control managed directly by switches, without separate door modules.
-
Newer models (Focus MK2, C-Max, Mondeo MK4) introduced dedicated DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module), communicating with other vehicle electronics via the CAN-BUS network.
-
Modern Ford vehicles (e.g. Focus MK3, Kuga, Mondeo MK5) use door modules for extended features such as Keyless Entry, automatic mirror folding, fault diagnostics, or anti-pinch window protection.
Replacement and pairing
-
In some older models, door modules can be replaced plug & play without additional programming.
-
In newer vehicles, however, modules must be paired with the car and additional features may require coding via diagnostic tools (e.g. ForScan).
-
An incorrectly paired module can lead to malfunction of windows, mirrors, or central locking.
